Make a compost tamper

When sowing seeds in pots or trays it helps to tamp down the compost to create a smooth sowing surface. These are easy to make using waste pieces of wood.

A log or waste piece of wood can be cut to size to make the tamper and a stout stick approximately 2.5-3cm in diameter can be used as a handle. If using a log choose the right diameter to fit into a small pot. Cut a slice off the end about 1cm thick.

Cut a piece of stem to the length required and screw to the wooden disc.
