One of the common questions we get at Kitchen Garden magazine is why are my greenhouse tomatoes not ripening? This is often seen as a problem when the fruits start to form but they are slow to colour up. It is often just patience that is needed because once a few start to turn then suddenly they all do and before long you have a glut of ripe fruits. However, if the weather is not conducive to ripening or you just want to speed things up then you could try the method of hanging bananas or their skins among the branches of the tomatoes. The bananas will keep on maturing and releasing ethene gas which induces ripening in some other fruits too including tomatoes.
