Grow sweet potatoes

If you would like to cultivate your own sweet potatoes you need to start these off undercover as they are tender plants. You can buy tubers or slips from many seed companies in spring and  plant up in containers. Large pots or potato bags are ideal and then place inside a greenhouse or polytunnel.  Use canes to tie up the spawling foliage. You could keep in a greenhouse if room otherwise place the pots outside during the summer. Keep well watered. In September move into a greenhouse or polytunnel again so they get an extra month of late growth to improve the size of tubers that you will harvest in October/November.
