We grew lots of sweet peppers in the polytunnel this year – wonderful crop!
Grown undercover in pots, they don’t need much attention apart from watering, feeding with tomato food (when the flowers arrive) and making sure you pot them onto larger pots as they grow – this is because once the fruit develops they topple over very easily otherwise. Also, they don’t need watering quite so regularly in larger pots. Even then, a little staking with canes may be necessary.
So yesterday, we harvested quite a few!
My favourite variety this year was ‘Gogorez’ which produces symmetrical, fleshy, ribbed fruit, turning from green to red. Chunky but also attractive visually.
Another favourite was ‘Cornitos’, a long, pointed variety maturing to either yellow or red. A heavy cropper this one with relatively thin flesh.
